Last post, I was pregnant and waiting for our latest addition to arrive. Since then, life has turned upside down, inside out and completed multiple 360's. We're delighted!
We are blessed with watching and participating in two ends of the "emergent being" spectrum. Arianna is now a freshman at a Northwest university, operating a fully functional adult in charge of her daily life. Sophia is doing what 20 month old children do best - being infinitely curious, completely fearless and fully engaged with her expanding universe. While we're practicing a hands-off approach with our eldest, our youngest needs and receives all the attention she's interested in getting. It is an odd mix no doubt, but it does bookend the growing up process in a remarkable and palpable manner.
Our lives continue to unfold as well. Alan is still hot on the start-up trail, I'm looking more seriously into a variety of positions now that Sophia is in school for part of each weekday. We''re happy to be living in our remodel rather than hiding from it, which is a plus since the baby is all over the place and loves exploring every floor. All the parents are still with us, as are the cats, dog and our latest addition to the family, Cool-hand Luke. Luke swims happily in his tank in the kitchen, and provides an infinite source of fascination for Sophia and the cats.
We spent last year traveling around the world while the baby was still containable (no more) and enjoyed Europe and Asia as Alan was on world tour promoting the future of video for his former employer. The Swedes are unfortunately no longer funding our wanderlust, but now that Sophia wants to run up and down (and up and down and...) the airplane aisles, we're slightly less popular guests than we were before she started walking. It does free us up to consider other things, like enjoying our more domestic delights.
Hopefully my writing career will re-emerge soon, along with my ability to knit more than two stitches, play something more enlightening than "Chopsticks" on the piano, and cook a wider variety of culinary delights. Not having had an infant before, I was shocked at how full-on-from-the-firehouse the process really is, and am more than thankful that I've had the option to be a full time mom. Baby is in school 5 afternoons a week now, so I've got the freedom to reconsider what I'd like to do for an encore, professionally speaking. More on that later.
Nice to be back. Hello again, Hello!
